The National Historical Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the largest museums in Central Asia. Its collection holds tens of thousands of unique artefacts reflecting the history, culture and nature of the Kyrgyz people from ancient times to the present day. The museum was founded on 9 December 1925 by a decision of the Presidium of the Executive Committee of the Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast, chaired by Abdykadyr Orozbekov — originally as the Central Museum. On 5 March 1927 it welcomed its first visitors in the house of M. V. Frunze. At its origins stood its first director, the eminent scholar and ethnographer S. M. Abramzon, whose ethnographic findings formed the basis of the museum's first collection.
